Biography:
After graduating from the Eurodoc documentary production workshops in 2002, Nick Higgins created the Scottish documentary production company, Lansdowne Productions in 2003.
His first film, Women in Black (2004) told the story of an international women's network of silent peace activists. Broadcast by Scottish Television, it was among 10 documentaries selected by the Nobel Peace Foundation in Oslo, Norway. Nick's next film Hidden Gifts, The Mystery of Angus MacPhee, the story of a schizophrenic man who weaved clothes out of grass, went on to win Best Documentary prize at the Britspotting festival in Berlin, Germany and was nominated for the Prix Italia (Rome) and the Royal Television Society Awards (London).
In 2006 Nick produced the short science documentary A Stem Cell Story, which won Best Science Media Production at the Science Film Festival in Tromso, Norway and the best short film award at Scinema, Australia. Nick's next short documentary Mentiras (2006) was produced under the Bridging the Gap Scheme.
In 2008, the film was selected to tour 16 Mexican cities in Mexico as part of actors' Gael Garcia and Diego Luna's Ambulante festival.
In 2007 Nick completed the 60' documentary, A Massacre Foretold for Dutch and Finnish television. The feature premiered at the Edinburgh International Film festival and received the WACC/SIGNIS joint prize for the best human rights documentary of 2007.
In 2008 Nick produced the multi-directorial feature length documentary The New Ten Commandments with Noe Mendelle, as well as directing one of the short commandment films himself. Since then it premiered at Edinburgh International Film Festival 2008, Cambridge FF and Sheffield Docfest.
