Yasmin Fedda

Biography:

In 2004 Yasmin Fedda spent two months filming in a desert monastery in central Syria to produce ‘Milking the Desert'.

This was made as her graduate film for a MA in Visual Anthropology in Manchester University.

It has been shown at several festivals around the world including Sheffield International Documentary Film Festival and Al Jazeera Film Festival in Qatar.

Since then she has worked on several projects, including filming members of the Afro-Cuban religion Santeria in Miami, US and a documentary featuring a group of pensioners in Damascus who still receive a colonial pension from the UK.

For her film on the Bridging the Gap scheme teamed up with Robin Mitchell and Jim Hickey to make BREADMAKERS, which has also been shown at International festivals, including the Sundance Film Festival and the Edinburgh Film Festival. It was also nominated for a short film BAFTA.

Prior to Beginning work on BREADMAKERS, Yasmin ran a film workshop in Newcastle with young Asylum Seekers. At the same time she was engaged on researching the history and development of the Yemeni community in South Sheilds for the film and exhibition called The Last of the Dictionary Men.

Since Breadmakers Yasmin has worked on several documentary film projects with adults with learning disabilities and homeless young people, as well as coordinating the Reel Afghanistan Film and Music Festival.

She is also developing some film projects in Syria and Palestine to be filmed later this year.
