Biography:
Alice Nelson was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1969. Currently resident in Edinburgh, Scotland.
She has a Masters in Fine Art (painting) and a Masters in Film. In 2003, she directed her first film, Vocation, funded through the Small Wonders Scheme/National Lottery.
In 2005 she was commissioned by Scottish Documentary Institute Bridging the Gap scheme to make A Difficult Case. A Map With Gaps was her third short film completed in February 2006. It has been selected for over 40 festivals worldwide, and has won nine awards including the Jury Award for Best Short Documentary at Slamdance Film Festival 2007, Park City, U.S.A.
Alice was commissioned by Channel 4 (U.K.) with Clarity Productions as producers, to direct five short documentaries on the greatest scientific hoaxes and scams through history. Science Scams are scheduled to be broadcast in 2007/8.
Also due to be broadcast at this time are Alice's second commission for Channel 4 (U.K.) with Clarity Productions for a series of four short films called Losing Myself. Based on the experiences of four elderly people with dementia, one of the episodes, Losing Myself: Annie won a Scottish BAFTA for Best Short Film.
Alice has recently been commissioned to direct a segment for Scottish Documentary Institute's feature length documentary, The Ten New Commandments to mark the 60th anniversary of the Human Rights Declaration.
