Biography:
Richard Simpson is a relatively recent convert to documentary filmmaking, but has 20 years experience as a national newspaper and radio journalist, with an even longer parallel career as an independent documentary photographer, specialising in long-duration, observational projects.
In print journalism Richard wrote features and news for British broadsheets, particularly The Telegraph and The Guardian, on everything from travel to finance but specialising in human interest.
In still photography he has published and exhibited widely, including several touring exhibitions supported by the Arts Council, and recently showed an installation, based on documentary photography, at the Royal Scottish Academy.
Richard has made a number of short films for 4Talent, FourDocs and BBC Film Network, and is currently self-shooting a ‘3 Minute Wonder' series for Channel 4, while developing a longer-form documentary about The Morning Star, the English-speaking-world's only surviving Communist newspaper.
