Scottish Documentary Institute at Rotterdam International Film Festival

We're delighted to be screening Alice Nelson's The Right to Privacy and Douglas Gordon's The Right Not to be Tortured at Rotterdam International Film Festival 2010.

The Right to Privacy by Alice Nelson is a droll yet dead serious animated description of what is and isn't allowed in the privacy of your own home.

A case that came up in the Scottish court in 2007 caused a domino effect. A seemingly inconsequential story about a man's privacy became the subject of a heated global debate. Part of a series in honour of the 60th birthday of universal human rights called The New Ten Commandments.

The Right Not to be Tortured by Douglas Gordon is a beautifully shot portrait of an animal in distress, made to call attention to the 60th birthday of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Episode from a series of Scottish short films called The New Ten Commandments based on the Ten Commandments that calls attention to the 60th birthday of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. For artist Douglas Gordon, the right to not be tortured is also applicable to animals.
