Standing Start Shortlisted for Grierson Best Newcomer Award

The Scottish Documentary Institute's very own Finlay Pretsell along with co-director/co-producer Adrian McDowall have been shortlisted for the prestigious Bloomberg Best Newcomer Award at this year's Grierson Awards.

The 12 minute experimental film about Olympic cyclist Craig MacLean in his build up to a world cup race was made in association with the Scottish Documentary Institute last year. It had it's world premiere at Edinburgh Int Film Festival and has gone on to screen at various festivals around the world.

The film was made through Imagine Pictures with support from Cycling Scotland. It's a stirrring portrayel of man in search of meaning, the life and battles of Odysseus are paired with the gladiator like race day preparations of an Olympic cyclist.

Adrian and Finlay commented: "We're delighted that a film like this has been recognized for such a prestigious award"
